Shout Outs
A few shout outs today...
To: Shane Lavalette for putting together an exciting new photography publication called Remain in Light. I was happy to have received my copy this week. Lay Flat is a new print publication devoted to promoting the best in contemporary fine art photography and writing on the medium. Each issue is assembled by Shane in close collaboration with a co-curator. The inaugural issue features photographs by Ed Panar, Shawn Records, and Whitney Hubbs as well many others and writings by Tim Davis, Darius Himes, Cara Phillips, Shane Lavalette, Eric William Carroll, and Jason Fulford. You can buy Lay Flat here.
To: Andy Adams over at Flak Photo for having about the best designed and thoughtfully edited online photo magazine and him having been a great supporter of my work the past year. He has a weekend section up now on Fall River Boys.
To: Keith Mayerson for a beautiful show of his drawings at Paul Kasmin Gallery
To: Jen Miller and Gabe Rhodes for keeping a fabulous blog while traveling with their twin 2 year olds Max and Emmett throughout S.E. Asia.

Almost Naked - The Limited Edition Book
Yesterday, I was fortunate to see Shen Wei's new limited edition book of his Almost Naked series. It is a beautifully made package and is a great testament to artists taking control of the means of distribution of their work. You can purchase it from Shen here.

Small Museums
I really enjoy when I am traveling or on the road visiting smaller museums. Museums that specialize in a a particular area or just the major museum for a small to mid-size city. They often provide exciting new discoveries. The status quo being that the biggest institutions get the most attention it is refreshing to see visit a museum that is not generally on everyones radar.
Ones that I have found worth visiting over the years.
Hunter Museum in Chattanooga
Southwest Museum of the American Indian in Los Angeles
Speed Art Museum in Louisville
The Nelson Museum of the West in Cheyenne
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City
Portland Museum of Art in Maine
Newark Museum in New Jersy
Phillips Collection in DC
Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans
Cincinnati Museum of Art in Ohio
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
Hunter Museum
The Nelson Museum of the West

Phil
My dear friend Tony Payne who has been curating, collecting, and making art since he was in diapers recently opening his own gallery space in LA. It has been a dream of his for years and I am really proud that he has made it happen. He is showing sculpture, photography, drawings, objects, and painting in a supercool little mid-century building in Highland Park on the east side of LA. Check it out next time you are in LA. The address of Phil is 4918 York Boulevard Los Angeles, CA. Tel 213-280-7340
